My Birth Story

1am

Getting ready for bed when Wes was moving like crazy and morphing my belly into unusual ways. 🀰🏻

2:30am

Couldn’t sleep due to period type pains 🀦🏻‍♀️

3:00am

Started tracking contractions. Immediately they’re 5 minutes apart and 1 minute long. ⏱ Decided I wouldn’t wake up Bryan until they’ve been going on for an hour.

3:30am

I started feeling pressure in my cervix and then a GUSH of water that soaked the entire bed. I woke up Bryan and we headed to the hospital πŸ₯

4/4:30am

Arrived at hospital. Told they don’t have Labor & Delivery, but since I’m in active labor they are going to transfer me to my OB hospital...IN A HELICOPTER! 🚁 they checked our vitals and I was only 1cm dilated.

5/6am

Bryan heads to hospital so he can meet the helicopter there. It’s a 45-60 min drive away.

The helicopter arrives and they check mine & Wes’ vitals again, 2cm dilated. We get carted to the helicopter and we strapped down the entire ride.

It was such a cool experience! It was still dark so I got to see all the city lights a long the way! πŸŒƒ

6:30am

Arrive at OBs hospital, get vitals checked, 3cm dilated. Baby’s heart beat drops once, I am given oxygen and it picks back up. 😷

7am

Baby’s heartbeat drops again, I am moved onto my side and it picks back up. Bryan arrived at hospital. πŸ’

8:30am

Wes’ heart rate dropped again. Still only 3cm dilated, nurses and OB decided he couldn’t make it through labor and I needed a CSection. πŸ‘¨πŸ»‍⚕️πŸ‘©πŸ»‍⚕️

9:00am

The anesthesiologist came in and informed me on the surgery and the kind of anesthesia I would be on. πŸ’‰

9:15am-9:30am

I get prepped for surgery. They give me anesthesia in my spine so I will be numb from the abdomen down but can still feel my arms and face. I was shaking like crazy the entire surgery. Bryan sat up by my head and talked me through it and kept telling me how great I was doing. When they started pulling Wes out, Bryan stood up to watch.🀭 I was shaking so bad the anesthesiologist offered me meds to help me relax, but said I may not remember when Bryan brought Wes over if I take it. I decided to wait.

9:45am

Wes is born. He had his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck TWICE 😭 my poor little baby boy! But, he was healthy and had a good heart rate! I heard him start crying and it was the most precious cry I had ever heard in my life! My baby was here and he was alive. I started crying and kept saying “that’s my baby”πŸ’™

Bryan got to cut his umbilical cord. ✂️By this time I was shaking so bad the anesthesiologist said he noticed I was struggling and wanted to help me calm down so he gave me the meds. πŸ’‰

10 something am

I am slowly coming out of anesthesia as they are wheeling me back to my room. Bryan is in there by the window and as I came in he turned around holding Wes. Once they got me settled, Bryan brought Wes over so I could finally hold him and try to feed him. He latched on easily and perfectly! πŸ‘ΆπŸ»πŸ’™

A few hours later they moved us to our recovery room and my mom and Luke was able to come visit us. πŸ˜ŠπŸ’™ Wes was eating good, he ate for 30-60min every time I fed him and he had 3 diaper changes.

Between the nurses and Wes wanting me to hold him, I was kept me up most of the night last night. The nurses finally took him around 3am and let me sleep for a few hours.

He has been sleeping most of the day today. He has his bili test tonight, passed his hearing test, got negative on his diaper test and he got a bath today! πŸ›

Bryan’s family came to visit for a little while and meet little WestbrookπŸ’™

I was also able to shower today🚿, take my bandages off my incision, and get my catheter and IV taken out! I have been walking great and should be released either tomorrow or Saturday! πŸ™ŒπŸ»
